Last year's recruiting woes at Maryland had Terps fans fretting about the prospects of their basketball progam. Being able to compete in the ACC basketball world starts with basketball recruiting; without the top talent Cheap Vancouver Canucks Jerseys , the competition is simply too strong.
The good news started for Maryland this week included getting 2008 center Steve Goins cleared to play by the NCAA, which will give Maryland much needed help in the post this season.
Gary Willams then recieved a huge commitment from Brooklyn power forward James Padgett, a 6-8 big man who should see considerable playing time during his time as a Terp. Padgett is a strong rebounder and can score in the post, and the most impressive asset that the Lincoln High School star brings is that he has the ability to snag rebounds in the heavy congested lanes of the ACC.
Although Padgett can score in the paint Cheap Canucks Jerseys , his mid range game is not strong enough at this point to be a consistent threat and he should see continued improvement in his post offense under Gary Williams.
A tough minded player who plays alongside top star Lance Stephenson, Padgett was also considering Pittsburgh, but felt that playing time might be more readily available on the Terp roster. This is most likely true, given that Maryland has lost several players in the post for various reasons Cheap Jonah Gadjovich Jersey , from graduation to deciding to transfer.
Maryland fans are glad to have their first recruit for the class of 2009 on board, and Padgett is a solid player. Basketball recruiting at Maryland has certainly taken a turn for the better, and Maryland fans are breathing a little easier.
